The stretch is finally in...
I finally relented and had the stretch stock location intercooler and a bunch of other parts installed ON the car, instead of storing them around in the trunk where they've been for 15 years or so.
Big difference. The mechanic had to notch the edges of the intercooler just a little to clear the frame braces under the car. Other than that, everything is in. |

Re: The stretch is finally in...
What did he notch (I'd look really carefully and make sure it wasn't an end tank or you'll have a potential boost leak. Any pictures?

Re: The stretch is finally in...
Ken,
Here's the pic looking along the driver's side brace. It looks like no notch was needed on the passenger side. Mike BTW, you probably don't remember me, but I've been a member since we had the daily emailed digest. |

Re: The stretch is finally in...
You might want to consider putting a piece of rubber hose around the brace to prevent metal to metal contact ... or bend the brace just a little (it's the add-on brace for the Montes I believe, so I can believe the clearance might be a little tight).
If that rubs a bit with the engine movement, it'll probably eventually cause problems... just my Glad "one of the old guard" is still around! Now come over and get mine finished!

Re: The stretch is finally in...
As soon as you said something, I called /texted my mechanic and friend, Bob Frontino of PV Performance in San Dimas, CA, who is simply awesome.
He said he didn't notch the cooler, he only notched the bracket that carries the intercooler. It was super tight and the picture shows a rub mark, as you guessed. I may try to get the braces off, and get some thin silicone sleeves on them and then put them back. The car is pretty well braced all around and is a 'lightweight' because of the low optioning [no power windows, T-tops, cruise, aluminumm bumper supports, etc.]. |

Re: The stretch is finally in...
I just put a little piece of heater hose over that on mine ... I might have re-bent the brace angle a tiny bit to increase clearance too.

Re: The stretch is finally in...
When I ran the PTE SLIC I just left one of those braces off. Moving to a DeQuick front mount...eventually.
