Default permanent brass pcv valve

My mechanic suggested i run one of these permanent all brass pcv valves instead of the traditional aluminum ones found on all stock cars. well, when i went to pull it out, to make sure its clean and serviceable, i tried blowing thru it, and it was hard as HECK to blow thru it. is this normal? i cant see this working too well, as the actual SEAL of the valve itself within its grommet isnt that tight. i think the seal of the pcv valve will let go before the valve itself. i dont get it.. someone educate me.
I feel as if it had to push as hard as i did, to get air thru it, it would just leak out of the grommet itself.. What am i missing ?

huh? a grommet lol. it slides right into this grommet in the floor of the intake manifold, and just sits there. then theres about a 6" length of 3/8ths hose that goes on top of the valve, and then from that, it leads into that steel vac line thingy you see there.

you got a breather in your intake manifold floor?? how? and what is the positive/negative effects on this?

I would think its better, since the intake isnt suckin in any hot oil fumes back into the throttle body again.. (am i right?)
