Dang. Sorry to hear that. Don't feel too bad; my car spent the last few weeks on jackstands while my transmission went off for a rebuild for the third time in just over two years. I was chasing some "real" false knock in my situation and it ended up being the transmission. Car is back on the road after this build on the tranny...this time by Brian Hofer in MI. He tore my transmission down and explained that most of the stuff that was claimed to have been upgraded in my transmission had never been done...twice. Now I've spent over $5000 grand in transmissions alone over the past few years.

Sounds like you may have gotten a raw deal on the heads/head gasket replacement. Possibly coolant leaking into the crankcase took out a bearing and the rest of the rotating assembly followed. Only one of a myriad of scenarios.

5000 grand? Isn't that like... five million dollars?

This tranny stuff can get expensive...

Where in MI is Brian Hofer? Does he do engine rebuilds or can he recommend someone? Given they are in the downriver area.

Sorry to hear about your engine.

+1 for Brian's trannys!

I had my engine (lower end) rebuilt by "Auto Parts Machine Shop", 2784 Plaza Dr., Ann Arbor, Mi 48108. Ask for Daryl. 734/663-9381 I can tell you this machine shop does not do too many Buick GNs, but Daryl is very meticulous and built my engine to the specs I provided him 3 years ago. I would recommend him any day.
