Removing ac and heater core
I'm currently having my engine rebuilt and while I have the engine out of the car I have been thinking about removing the "eye sore" ac and heater core and install a new ac delete panel. Has anyone ever did this project? Does the passenger inner fender need to come off to remove all of it?
I was thinking about retaining the heater core and fan while purchasing a kit that G-body parts sells that allows you to keep your heater core in case you need to use the defroster in the fall months. I'm just not sure which way to go with this. I know it would free up a lot of space on the passenger side for sure allowing easier access to changing out spark plugs etc. Furthermore, it would sure get rid of the eye sore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Jamie C. |

Re: Removing ac and heater core
If you don't care about A/C, resale or originality, it's not that big a project. Basically a plate and some sealer after you remove all the pieces/parts.
You'd need an A/C delete pulley (I think off an S10?) and a new belt too since you'd most likely remove the A/C compressor. Unless this is a pure track car though, I personally wouldn't do it. There's something about the fact his is a "gramma's Regal" with A/C and power accessories that makes it cool.

Re: Removing ac and heater core
Ken,
Thank you for the input. My car already has the a/c delete pully on it with new serpentine belt. I just want to get rid of that ugly looking box. I know G-body parts sells a bracket kit that still allows the driver to use the heat capability. It looks great and appears to get rid of all that "eye sore" box. Thanks again, Jamie C. |

Re: Removing ac and heater core
Phil,
Thank you for the link and for the suggestion to get both the panel as well as the A/C delete panel. I would of just purchased the A/C panel not realizing that this take two separate items to give the finished clean look. Also, enjoyed looking at your car photos on here. You have a nice ride!
