Default camshaft ticking noise

I have 66k on original motor on my 87 GN. Only mods made were upgraded chip, fuel pump / injectors, and adjustable waste gate (prior to my purchase). Under light acceleration it sounds like an exhaust leak. I have had it looked at by different mechanics and they can't find any signs of exhaust leak (looked at weak point on drivers side exhaust manifold and it was fine). Put it on the dyno and listened and the ticking wasn't there. It does come back when I drive it though. I have been using the Zinc additive since I have owned it for 7 years. Not sure if previous owners used it.
Can the camshaft/lifters be the cause of this tapping/ticking noise if the Zinc additive wasn't used by previous owners?

It could be, but on the dyno with a little load you should have heard the same thing and you stated you didn't... You will have to think about what is different when you drive down the road and make it happen as apposed to the dyno... Not much help to you here... Is the ticking sound more from the engine compartment or underneath??? Could you have a motor mount issue and the engine rocks up when you accelerate down the road and something is either separating and causing the noise or a tin shield on the exhaust manifold ticking at times... With out actually hearing it I,m just guessing... Sorry... Tom G.
