Help with 109 block
I have an 87 GN in which I'm trying to restore. The engine is out and I just tore the intake off. Inside the lifter valley looks like an 84-85 block with the jagged oil drain holes, however it has the boss and is machined with the turbo oil drain in the front and also has the additional webbing outside the lifter valley above the timing cover which from my understanding the 84-85 blocks don't have. I looked at the pics on this forum and I'm really confused. This was my dads car, which he bought new and never abused. The car is bone stock and has never had the engine replaced. Please can someone help with this? Thanks

Re: Help with 109 block
What is the part number cast into the block? That would be a good place to start...

It's 25526109, I'm sure of it. I'm really confused.

Re: Help with 109 block
Pictures will really tell the tale here, I think ...
Does it have 20 bolts in the oil pan?

Re: Help with 109 block
Info update: I'm not dealing with a 109 block after all. The casting number is 25524140. I can't find any info for this number, but it does have a 20 bolt oil pan. I've been told its a late production 85 block due to the webbing outside of the lifter valley above the timing cover, the block is tapped for the turbo drain however there is no boss cast there. I'll post pics later today or tonight. Any insight on this is very much appreciated.

Re: Help with 109 block
Yup. That's a late 85 block. I think we might have pictures of that.

Re: Help with 109 block
I've been told they are the same as 109 blocks other than the casting changes, meaning all internals are the same. Can anyone verify this? I'm only looking to build a low 12 or high 11 car.

Re: Help with 109 block
It'll be fine for that. No internal differences.
