Default Exhaust help please..

Hi imma make it quick my exaust pipe that comes out of my turbo and feeds into the catalytic converter has a crack about 2 feet down from my turbo. what I'm planing on doing is replacing the whole exhaust from that crack all the way to the back (minus the catalytic converter) with a single exhaust system with larger diameter pipes and a single flow master muffler will this cut down on my performance of my buick by going with a single exhaust system??

I haven't messed with my downpipe yet, but did recently install the Pypes catback system in our car together with their Race Pro mufflers. Very pleased with the results and the price wasn't bad at all. I have never been a fan of Flowmaster on anything... but exhaust is a purely subjective thing.

Flowmaster is not an ideal exhaust for a TR. It scavenges pulse energy from the cylinders and creates backpressure issues. If you want a single exhaust system make sure it's at least 3" or just use the tried and Hooker cat back or the 409 stainless Pypes system Jeff is talking about. The Hooker is about $350 and the Pypes $400. Both can be found at Summit Racing and may include free shipping. Both systems are direct fit and don't need to be welded on by a shop. Most aftermarket 3" downpipes are pretty pricey at $500.

Does your state check emissions?

If the exhaust is large enough (i.e. 3" pipe or larger) it should not.

Is it safe to assume you are talking about an 86/87 TR?

Sounds like your downpipe from the turbo has cracked. Is it the stock unit?

I agree in principle, but know of at least one TR that went very fast with Flowmaster mufflers. Generally, straight through designs flow smoother, and our exhaust has little to no "pulses" since the turbo mitigates them.

Most aftermarket downpipes are mandrel bent quality stainless. You get what you pay for.

Exhaust flow will be better. Note that boost will usually rise when it is removed. Be sure to check detonation levels and O2 data at WOT. Otherwise, you could lean out, get damaging knock levels, and have other issues. Just keep the boost suitable for the fuel you run and detonation at bay.
