Hard brake pedal at times.
Hi I have a 87 buick grand national. Recentley I have experienced a hard brake pedal when I have to brake suddenly. The brake switch had been changed before I owned the car. I have not looked into the combination valve if it is cast or not.

Re: Hard brake pedal at times.
How many miles on the car? Do you know when the accumulator has last been changed? Do you have any reason to suspect a problem?
I would go through to analysis tree and determine if a problem actually exists.

Re: Hard brake pedal at times.
Thank You for your response. It acts up if you are driving 35 mph, brake a little and then all at once panic brake it take a lot of force on the pedal.

Re: Hard brake pedal at times.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and convert your brake system over to vaccum before you kill someone or yourself. POWERMASTER brakes are junk!

Re: Hard brake pedal at times.
No matter what brake system you have, be sure that someone didn't disable the brake warning light, or it may be burned out.
It won't fix your problem, but I bet it will help warn or remind you that there is a problem. Test it by setting the emergency brake. Should turn on light. (same one i think) ElectraJim |

Re: Hard brake pedal at times.
Thanks for the tip. I didn't think of that. I did engage the parking brake and you are right, the light did not come on. I'll replace it and try it again. I'am thinking probably the accumulator ball.
