Default timing

I have a basic knowledge of how timing works. When do you increase timing when tuning? Is there a basic rule of thumb to follow? I did a search on the reference side but didn't come up with anything. Thanks.

Default Re: timing

The timing is all the chip, street chips will have less timing to help control knock, unless you run more higher octane or alky you have to be careful running a chip programmed to bring in more timing. Alot of the street chips are programmed around 20/18 degrees timing and I believe the alky chips are around 23/21 degrees.
