turbo-link wont connect

cant get my turbolink to connect to two different laptops, one has vista and one has XP. the light isnt on on the black box. where do I go from here? I checked the voltage on the ecm plug, 5 volts, is this correct?

the led light is not lit, no ECM conection. is what the trouble shoot said.

ok getting closer, all my com ports where used, got me. and I had to turn my user account off. the green light comes on for couple seconds, then it pops up couldnt connect. what else can I try? my laptop has Vista.

Use XP to start (Vista can get in the way of all sorts of stuff). Once that works, then you can fight the Vista crap.

The light lighting momentarily indicates it passed data ... it's not a power LED, but will show when data is being transferred.

We need to post a fix for this if it is found, I have searched all over the net with no answers and lots of questions on this topic, and of course, mine is doing the exact same thing.

Well, I got it working using another cable from IOGear, cable GUC232A, I ordered a new IOGear cable from work but found one when I got home. So if anyone is in need of a USB serial cable, I will sell you this Cable with Tlink and drivers on a disk for $20. You will still need the aldl plug though.

I'm sorry to hear that you're still having issues. Let me try to
explain the situation more fully:

1. The USB-to-Serial converter cable is a bridge between your
PC application and your target hardware.

2. The application running on your PC has a communication
set-up menu somewhere, that allows connection to a particular range of COM
port numbers (very often COM1, COM2, COM3, and COM4). Also, it may require
you to choose a data rate (bits per second), number of bits (such as 7 or
8), number of Stop bits (0, 1, or 2), and parity (none, even or odd). Also
included may be handshaking by hardware or software (or none at all).

3. The COM port itself can be visualized in your PC's Device
Manager, and is seen inside of PORTS: COM & LPT. Expand the + box and then
right-click on the reference 'USB-to-Serial...', then choose 'Properties',
then the 'Port Settings' tab.

4. From the port settings tab, you can then change all the
settings for the COM port to exactly what the application requires.

5. Last, it's helpful to know what the target hardware needs to
have in order to process the received data from the USB-to-Serial cable.
Its port should be set up similarly to what the application needs.

6. Troubleshooting: check that the cable is installed OK by
checking Device Manager. If you can find the cable in Ports and in USB
(near the bottom of the list)and there are no error symbols shown in either
place, your cable is installed and working. Second, if you issue a command
with the application, you might be able to see a Tx LED flash on the end of
the cable. However, if the data is fast and brief, you will not see much,
particularly if there is a lot of ambient light. Third, if the data coming
to the target is not recognized by the target's processor, for any reason,
then the processor will not be able to respond with an Rx coming back to
your PC. You can try different baud rates: 9600 and 19,200 are two common
rates, but you can try others and see if the target will respond.

Actually, that email tells you nothing because all those things are irrelevant ... they are overridden in the TurboLink software.

The basic problem (as you found) is the adapter is not completely RS232 compliant. The IO Gear one is (and it's the one I always recommend and use).
