PowerMaster doesn't prime
Had the PowerMaster rebuilt (100%) last year and everything was fine. Just started car up and you guess it no brakes! The motor comes on but never lowers the level in reservoir, cleaned the electrial connections no help.
Any quick things I need to do? |

Re: PowerMaster doesn't prime
Are you sure you are hearing the PM motor, or the fuel pump? Does the motor shut off eventually when you leave the key on (engine off) ?
If the pump is running more than 20 secs and not shutting off, it is likely to burn itself up pretty soon. This would indicate either a failed pressure switch or a hydraulic failure in the pump, accumulator or maybe the master cylinder. I am assuming you have a very hard pedal with little or no braking force, which in my experience tells me the pump is NOT operating. There is some good troubleshooting info in the Resources section on this site. Take a look at it and see if anything jumps out at you. If the motor is switching on and you have sufficient fluid in the passenger side of the reservoir, it should be able to prime itself.

Re: PowerMaster doesn't prime
Your correct the pump is not running, it must be the fuel pump. Will look at resource sections.

Re: PowerMaster doesn't prime
Did you find the diagnosic section?
When you did your rebuild, did you get a new E/H pump from Hank Terry? If the fuse is OK it is either going to be in the pressure switch, the pump itself, or the wiring/connections in between those. "Fix your Powermaster Part 1" shows you how to test the switch with a volt/ ohmmeter. Let us know what you find.

Re: PowerMaster doesn't prime
Had the PM rebuilt last year, a 100% job, by the guys at GSX-TRA in GA.
They have been finding that left over rust in system can cause the problem, however I will still need to check out the wiring and the 12V before sending back. Unable to find the diagnosic section, even sent an email but nothing yet. Thanks for your efforts. Alan |

Re: PowerMaster doesn't prime
Found the tech area.
Checked the electrical and found that the Motor connector "B" & "D" open! Will be removing unit to check the connections. Thanks for the help Alan |
