All you need is a 10mm wrench. Be patient when removing them, sometimes they require a little maneuvering. Clean up whatever cramp is on the valve cover and head and put the gaskets on dry. Don't overtorque them. Less is better. You can always tighten a little more, if needed.
Cardinal Rule: Remember that we own these cars because we love driving them and working on them.

Are these cork gaskets something that I can just pick up at a local Advance Auto Parts, or are they a specialty item? Who makes the cork gaskets you quys use and where can I get some? Hopefully this will be the last of several leaks my GN had

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=107&PTSet=A

Is this what I'm looking for, and do I need to use any type of sealer in this case?

Napa also sells Felpro valve cover gaskets. Whatever you use, put them on dry and don't overtighten.

Lightbulb Re: Replacing valve cover gaskets on a TR

I have always lightly 'dusted' mine with silver paint first. I also use a little grey RTV on they top and let it dry first, then dab some on the bottom before putting it on the head. Chances are they won't fit the aluminum covers perfectly and will need a tiny bit of trimming or "encouragement".

Getting them on and off is a little squirrelly. There is no real trick. Just takes persistence. Passenger's side is a bit of a bitch. Loosening some of the nearby items for just a hair more clearance may help.

Perfect opportunity to repaint them...or chrome them. ;-)

I've never heard of the silver paint thing. What does that do?
