VDO Tach Modification to work with CCCI ignition
Scott Keller
Introduction
As it comes from the factory, the VDO tach will not work with the '84-'87 TR and '89 TTA CCCI ignition. This will also apply to the similar ignitions used in many GM cars of the same era.

Many tachs can be made to work by adding a 10k ohm resistor from the tach signal wire to ground. That will not work properly with this unit, though it will get it to respond somewhat.

Solution
If you purchased the unit from a TR vendor, they may have already had this modification made. You should inquire at your point of purchase to be sure.

If not, you will need to send your unit to VDO to have the "5 volt squarewave modification" made. It is done for free, and all you need to do is ship it to them. The address is (current as of August 2000):

VDO Instruments - Service
210-A Fort Collier Rd.
Winchester, VA 22603

Make sure you tell them you need the "5 volt square wave mod" in whatever documentation you send with it.

More info, contact John at (540) 678-2033 (8-5p Eastern). Again, this info is current as of August, 2000. Please let us know if you have more recent information.
