Examples of Exhaust Porting Techniques
Stock vs. Ported

STOCK EXHAUST BOWL

PORTED EXHAUST BOWL

Features of Note:
  • The exhaust port has a lot of restriction due to the valve guide
  • It's a bit blurry, but you can see how extra wide the valve seat is. This is important for head distribution.
  • If you look carefully, you can see the EGR hole at the top right. This is an "end" port with just the small hole. The middle port has huge double hole
Features of Note:
  • You can see the nice wide/smooth roof to the port
  • Also, notice how the short side radius is just smoothed and not really radically "laid back"
  • This port also has bronze guides pressed in

POLISHED CHAMBER

Features of Note:
  • The chamber has been carefully smoothed and blended
  • Not alot of material has been removed, but casting roughness and sharp edges are removed
