Buick V6 Connecting Rod Photo Guide |
|
"Two Dot" Front Side |
Features of Note:
- This is the production connecting rod for the rear wheel drive Buick V6 from 1981 to the TTA in 1989.
- Part number 25506520.
- This is the "flat" side of the rod which was machined for clearance on the off-center crankshaft. This allowed for the even fire crank thows.
- You can see two raised dots in the center of the rod shaft. Earlier rods had three dots.
- Buick V6 rods use cap screws which use threads in the rod instead of separate nuts on the bolts.

"Two Dot" Back Side |
Features of Note:
- This side of the rod shows the casting number 763 just above the crank journal.
- These numbers run lengthwise inside the hollow of the beam.
- Above it is a two digit number which changes from rod to rod. It may have been a lot number from the castings.
- Buick did their homework on these and they last under some very serious power demands. Rods are very, very seldom reported as the breaking point when an engine fails.
