Buick V6 Connecting Rod Photo Guide

"Two Dot" Front Side

Features of Note:

  • This is the production connecting rod for the rear wheel drive Buick V6 from 1981 to the TTA in 1989.
  • Part number 25506520.
  • This is the "flat" side of the rod which was machined for clearance on the off-center crankshaft. This allowed for the even fire crank thows.
  • You can see two raised dots in the center of the rod shaft. Earlier rods had three dots.
  • Buick V6 rods use cap screws which use threads in the rod instead of separate nuts on the bolts.
"Two Dot" Back Side

Features of Note:

  • This side of the rod shows the casting number 763 just above the crank journal.
  • These numbers run lengthwise inside the hollow of the beam.
  • Above it is a two digit number which changes from rod to rod. It may have been a lot number from the castings.
  • Buick did their homework on these and they last under some very serious power demands. Rods are very, very seldom reported as the breaking point when an engine fails.
