Using an HP Palmtop 100/200LX with TurboLink™
Steve Roytos
Procedure
The HP Palmtop is a 4" X 8" XT computer with a B&W LCD screen, containing a variety of programs for use such as a note taker, appt. book, calendar & scheduling app., Pocket Quicken(c), etc. It runs on two AA batteries, and can charge NiCads for even greater savings. The one thing that sets the Palmtop apart from other handheld computers is it's ability to run DOS applications. It contains DOS 5.5 in ROM, and will give approx 1.5 meg of free space to install any files or keep other recorded information.

It contains a single PCMCIA type 2 slot, allowing use of a wide variety of applications.

In order to use TurboLinktm you need the following:

HP Connectivity Kit (for file transfer) - $49.95
PCMCIA Parallel card (Quatech) - $199.95
    TurboLink - $149.95
Universal power cord from Radio Shack (part# 270-1528) - $9.99

Load the Palmtop with the TurboLinktm software (using the connectivity kit).

All that is needed are the following files:

pmodules.dat
turbolnk.exe

You also need whatever software that came with the parallel port PCMCIA card that you are using.

Plug it into the ciglighter, slide in the PCMCIA card, connect the TurboLinktm cable, turn it on and start it up!

The readout is very small, so I wouldn't recommend trying to read the display while driving. Your best option is to set TurboLinktm to record at at throttle setting of 2.50 volts or greater. This way you can place the palmtop in the console, go through the staging lanes, trip the recording during the burnout, and have a recorded session by the time you get back to the pits.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
