I bought a '84 T-Type a year ago and was only able to drive it for two months. Then it stopped running and have'nt had it running since. The last day I drove it, it was backfiering really bad. It started out slow, then the backfireing was more and more until it finally died. The motor has'nt run since that day. It has now been 1 year since I have drove the car. I talked to Conley's Performance Plus , which is near my home town of Houston, and they told me it sounds like a electrical problem. I tested the crank and cam position sensors and I am not getting a signal from neither one of them. I also tested the coil pack plug in and I am getting the proper amount of power out of the two wires that i'm supposed to have 12-13 volts running out of them. I cant remember which two now because I have had the car in storage for 8 months. I now got it out and have the time to spend with it to try and possibly figure it out. I was possibly thinking that the whole wire harness to the motor should be replaced seeing it's age. The only problem is I really don't have the $625.00 lying around to replace it, but if I must, I can do it. I've been tring to get as much information on hot-air turbo regals as much as I can. I'm a mechanic by trade, so ANY information is useful, even if it dose'nt protain to what I need to know. If yall know any way to possibly save money, time and a hartache, it would be very helpful! Also if I didnt explain enough, let me know and I will answer any questons yall may have. Please help me, I only paid $1000.00 for the car and would like to enjoy it without spending over it value. Thank you for taking time to read this and let me know something. My e-mail is turbobuick1984@yahoo.com

it could be a zillion things but dont let that intimidate you. If you are familliar with computer diagnosis...which if you can read a digital volt ohm meter and follow a flow chart you are familiar enough, go down to a buick dealer or a library and try to find a flow chart or a trouble shooting chart for your SPECIFIC CAR and it will start simple but it will get down to it, have you cked fuel press? do you have spark? was the backfire very consistant or was it mixed up like it had no particular pattern. are the computer grounds grounded well to the eng? they should be somwhere around the front cover near the lower rad hose i think. if so is the batt. grounded to the body well? Intake piping between mass air flow and t body has to be sealed tight... let us know

I'm not getting any spark and knew this already, along with the fact that yes I do have very good fuel pressure. My main problem is no spark.I also looked at clasper electronics web site and they sell a fusible link to our cars. Where is that located and how can I test it. Also, is it too hard to replace if I have to. Please let me know and also did I pay a good price for the car even though I'm having all of these problems. Thank you and take care of all of y'alls cars!

The fusible links all go from the starter to different points in the harness. A visual inspection and examination with a voltmeter will help you check them out. These can frequently be the source of problems.

You also may want to check out some of the information at http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/electrical/wiring.html
