Lear Siegler seat transplant
I need an opinion or 2 or 4.... I currently have the interior of my 87 GN ripped out. Ordered new carpet today, and was about to take the drivers seat (with the shredded headliner shell and visors ) to an upholstery guy for a makeover. I see that someone not far from me has a set of 84 Lear Siegler leather seats for sale (fronts and rear). I've always wanted leather seats in this car and the price seems reasonable. 1st question- does anyone know if these 84 seats (from a GN with Turbo6 logo) will bolt into an 87 GN? These Siegler seats look like they're not powered and my current driver seat is powered. 2nd question- The whole reason for overhauling the interior is for resale value for a planned spring sale (wife says this has to go to make room for the turbo trans-am I'll be buying) Will this seat swap increase or decrease the value? Unfortunately, I'll probably end up being in love with this GN after the overhaul and not get rid of it.
Sorry if this is a thread repeat but every time I search the archives, I get an 404 error message. Thanks in advance for any information and opinions |

Re: Lear Siegler seat transplant
First, if you are talking about the archive search that links back to http://www.ajlc.waterloo.on.ca/gnsearch.html it seems to be working fine. Is that what you meant?
As far as the seats, I don't know for sure if they fit. However, I do not think they would increase the value. Might decrease it in some eyes. Doing that would P.O. a lot of '84 owners, however.

Re: Lear Siegler seat transplant
Well I bought the seats and they do bolt right up in case any other 87 owner gets this Lear Siegler bug. I transplanted my power seat base onto the base of the 84 Siegler seat and except for having to remove one of the seat knobs it pretty much bolted right up. I had to change the plastic seat trim to dark gray on both seats to match that of the power seat base. The seats are much more comfortable and I like the look. I have a cloth sample coming from SMS auto fabrics in Oregon who claims to have the correct match as one part of the driver seat will need replaced once old man winter comes around and the car avoids the road salt. I replaced the headliner and the carpet at the same time so the interior is much nicer. I included pictures, hope no one is too offended, I'm keeping the other seats to return to original if the next owner prefers when I sell. On second thought, I may never sell.

Re: Lear Siegler seat transplant
That does look nice.
SMS has a very extensive inventory. They may be able to help.
