Default Voltage regulator

Hi,

what is the reasonable good voltage regulator for original style 120 A alternator regarding GN 87 and where to purchase it? There is quite many regulators in Rock Auto and also in other sites. At the moment I have not the plans to modify the backplate of the alternator, which is necessary for some type of the (good)regulators. Please recommendations!

BR,

Pentti

Any of the certified replacement parts should work fine (AirTex, AC Delco, Standard). The ones that require the modification look to be the "Iceberg" style with extra cooling fins?

Hi Ken,

thank you for your answer! Ok, I will check those altarnativies for instance in Rock Auto, or it is any other companies to do the order for that? I have discussed about the issue With Scott Keller, but we haven´t discussed very accurate about the brands for the " reasonable good" regulator to order and especially the company where to buy. He also informed me about the regulator, which demands some modifications in the back plate of the alternator. Otherwise, an interesting alternative!

Anyway, also Scott as you have helped me very much in this and other issues.

BR,

Pentti

P.S. These kind of reasonable good parts to get in Finland is not always so easy.

Rock Auto is a great source for stuff. Usually OEM or certified supplier type stuff (and the cheaper stuff too, but at least you get a choice!)

I think I'd spend the extra $15-20 on the AC Delco/Rhemy branded pieces.

I'd replace the rectifier bridge too while you're in there...

The voltage regulator that AC Delco lists in their application catalog is:

Part number D639A (19239038) or D685 seem to cross reference

Standard Motor Products VR472 also seem to work.

I think I'd stay away from BWD brand reman stuff...

Hi,

thanks for the further, additional information!

Actually, I have already the new rectifier bridge in its box, got it several years ago. What i´m doing, I´m repairing the one alternator for the spare. In our GN is at the moment the functionig alternator so the car is ok, luckily!

Thanks,

Pentti
