Crank case smoke/vapors and whats excessive
Im not sure if this is a current or potential problem but I notice smoke/vapors coming out the valve cover breather rather readily. I do have an aftermarket/after thought vaccum pump installed that draws out the smoke/vapors very efficiently. My concern is the amount of smoke/vapors that's being exhausted out thru the driver side fender wheel well via vac pump or if I turn off the vac pump and let the smoke come up thru the valve cover breather it, to me seems excessive. My question is, how much is normal? Or what could be some possible issues with smoke out the crankcase? If its an issue at all
Thanks! Aftermarket parts: 206/206 roller cam and .030 over Last edited by MBLACKLEY1; 02-02-2013 at 09:40 PM. Reason: after thought |

Re: Crank case smoke/vapors and whats excessive
You need to see if your heads are sealed tight on all cylinders and if there is blow by through the valve seals. (Do you have seals on both exhaust and intake valves? These motors do not from the factory.) A compression, and a leak down test might not be a bad idea.
These motors do have some natural fumes (not to mention pressure under boost) that come out of the crankcase. But with time and mileage it can increase. Intake sealing and the valve seals can often be big factors. As can use of the correct (AC Delco CV893) ) PCV valve.
