There were two basic variations of timing covers for the 3.8 RWD blocks:
- 1978-1984 (early 85): These front covers were designed to fit with the 14 bolt oil pan blocks
- late 1985-1987: These front covers were designed to fit the 20 bolt oil pan blocks
